Primordial Sound Meditation

Experience meditation & contemplation techniques to help reduce stress, enhance bliss, and connect to your heart.

What

What is meditation?

Meditation is a tool for rediscovering the body’s own inner intelligence. Practiced for thousands of years, it’s not about forcing the mind to be quiet, it’s finding the silence and wisdom that is already there and making it a part of your life.

Silence is the birthplace of happiness, creativity and infinite possibilities. From this field of pure potentiality we get our bursts of inspiration, our most intuitive thoughts, and our deepest sense of connection to the Universe. Practicing meditation on a daily basis allows you to weave silence and stillness into your mind and body to create a life of greater compassion and fulfillment. Meditation is a journey to the center of our very being; a journey to emotional freedom; and a journey to the reawakening of our unconditioned self.

Why

Practicing Primordial Sound Meditation on a daily basis can help you to:

• Manage stress

• Reduce anxiety

• Improve your relationships

• Create inner peace

• Awaken your intuition

Meditation can help you experience all of these benefits. At a deeper level, the ultimate goal of meditation is enlightenment, which can be simply described as awakening to your true self.  Meditation will help you remember your perfection and your infinite, unbounded nature.

Primordial Sound Meditation and health-

Nowadays, doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major contributing factor to most illnesses. Even though meditation should not be considered a cure by itself, research has shown it to be beneficial for a wide range of health problems. As stress is greatly eliminated through Primordial Sound Meditation, our minds and bodies begin to function with maximum effectiveness, creating health, vitality and happiness.

What is a Primordial Sound?

As its name implies, Primordial Sound Meditation is based on primordial sounds, the most basic sounds or vibrations of nature. There are 108 Primordial Sound mantras, derived from the work of ancient sages who recorded the vibrations of the universe in relation to the position of the moon. When you learn Primordial Sound Meditation, the personal mantra you receive is the sound that the universe was making at the time and place of your birth, when you emerged from the non-local domain of pure potentiality into the manifest world.

According to the Primordial Sound Meditation tradition, the vibration that took you from the non-local domain into the local domain can also take you back, allowing you to journey from activity into silence—into an experience of pure awareness.

Primordial Sounds are used to disconnect us from the activity of life. These individually selected sounds, known as mantras, are based on the vibration the universe was making at the moment of your birth.

Once your Primordial Sound mantra has been determined, you will be taught how to use it on a daily basis to reawaken balance, tranquility and compassion within. Your Chopra Center Certified Instructor will help you to integrate this practice into your daily routine.

Mantra

The word mantra has two parts: man, which is the root of the Sanskrit word for mind; and tra, which is the root of the word instrument. A mantra is therefore an instrument of the mind, a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation. A protection for the mind. I have seen this word mantra translated various ways. Protector of the mind, vehicle of the mind, and instrument of the mind. Regardless, it has its benefit.

According to the Vedic tradition, the ancient sages were able to hear the subtle vibrations produced by everything in nature—the sounds of the wind, thunder, butterflies, rushing rivers, and all other creations. They recognized that these sounds are the manifestation of spirit into matter. They identified the sound om (or aum) as the most elemental sound, representing the infinite universal consciousness. For thousands of years, people have used this mantra to expand their awareness of the divine.

The ancient seers also identified all the primordial vibrations or mantras that make up the universe, and these were eventually recorded in Vedic literature. You can actually hear all the mantras yourself if you sit quietly. You’ll notice a background hum in the air, and if you were to pay attention to that hum, you would ultimately hear every mantra the sages recorded long ago.

Inspiring Quotes

Meditation is a process of lightening up, of trusting the basic goodness of what we have and who we are, and of realizing that any wisdom that exists, exists in what we already have. We can lead our life so as to become more awake to who we are and what we’re doing rather than trying to improve or change or get rid of who we are or what we’re doing. The key is to wake up, to become more alert, more inquisitive and curious about ourselves.
